Lecrae Addresses Critics in 'Rebel vs. Gravity,' Creates Conflict With Fellow Christian Rapper

Lecrae recently addressed many of the criticisms some of his newer music has received on his new song "Rebel vs. Gravity."

The rapper basically pits two of his most popular albums against one another in an attempt to explain his growth as a believer in Christ and many of the changes he has made to his lyrical content on projects such as Church Clothes and Gravity.

Rebel, the rapper's critically acclaimed 2008 release, was more theological and focused mainly on Christian doctrine and the difference between the world and the church, whereas Church Clothes and Gravity, both released in 2012, feature a different Lecrae who is concerned with relating to some of the hurting and sick people in the world and delivering the Gospel message to them through love and compassion.

"Hey listen man, I still believe everything I wrote on Rebel," says Lecrae towards the end of the track. "Me bragging about where I've been or what kind of mission trips I'm doing and who I'm discipling in every song doesn't make me more holy. And me not talking about it doesn't make me less holy."

The song received criticism from Evangel of the Christian rap group ChristCentric, who released a reply record that addressed his issues with some of Lecrae's recent music and statements.

After his rebuttal "Hey Mr. Gravity" was received as some sort of diss record, Evangel quickly took it off the internet and released a full explanation of his actions.

Lecrae's Church Clothes 2 mixtape is coming soon, according to a tweet by respected DJ and recently appointed Def Jam Records A&R Don Cannon.

"Church Clothes 2! On The Way," said Cannon through his Twitter account.

He all but confirmed his involvement with the follow up to Lecrae's mainstream breakout mixtape from last year. Rapzilla also reports that Cannon was in Reach Records studios last month working with Street Symphony on the upcoming project.

Cannon hosted the original Church Clothes, which was released in 2012.
