Lenny Dykstra to be Released From Prison This Weekend, Reports Say
Lenny Dykstra could be released from prison as soon as this weekend, sources say. The former baseball star served 15 months of a 3-year sentence for charges of grand theft auto and filing a false financial report.
Dykstra pleaded no contest in October 2011 to three charges of grand theft auto and one of filing a false financial report. He allegedly tried to lease and sell the cars from various dealerships by claiming he had credit from a nonexistent business.
"I was surprised they let him out before the three years, to be quite frank with you, because he blatantly disobeyed the court, and a lot of the stuff was very brazen," author Christopher Frankie told the L.A. Times. "He was doing it in the full view of law enforcement."

Frankie authored a book on Dykstra's criminal history in "Nailed: The Improbable Rise and Spectacular Fall of Lenny Dykstra." He worked with Dykstra as editor of "The Players Club." Frankie was one of Dykstra's closest confidants before he was charged with grand theft auto.
Dykstra admitted to having a drug and alcohol addiction and underwent rehabilitation before reporting to the jail.
"I hope, for his sake, his family's sake, and the public's sake, that he doesn't return to his criminal past. I think people in this country really love a comeback story, so he certainly has that opportunity. But I'm not convinced that's the path he's going to take," Frankie added.
Dykstra had a 12-year career in the professional baseball league and retired after playing with both the Phillies and the Mets. He was only 33 at the time and decided to hang up his cleats in 1996.
"Now that Lenny Dykstra is getting released, I wonder if he'll start a software company to create a Grand Theft Auto style MMO," tweeted Zotz Mein.
