Lesbian Wedding Event Held 50 Feet From Westboro Baptist Church
A wedding-style event was held between two homosexual women at a location just 50 feet away from the infamous Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas this past weekend.
The ceremony was a way for Kimberly Kidwell and Katie Short to promote same-sex marriage. The two women invited around 100 guests to the ceremony and members of Westboro held up some of their well known signs around the grounds. However, the cult was not able to protest on the same property since it was residential land.
"I guess I was almost number after seeing them for a minute," said Kidwell to the Huffington Post. "I knew the signs would be there, and I wasn't even angry about it."
Same-sex marrriage is not legal in Kansas or Arkansas so Kidwell and Short hoped to capture the public's attention in their area by hosting this fake marriage ceremony. The event was performed by an ordained Baptist minister that is a lesbian and agrees with homosexuality, unlike many Christians.
The couple pulled off the ceremony just before the Supreme Court is expected to rule on two gay marriage cases soon.
A similar incident took place when a man named Aaron Jackson painted his house which is located directly across the street from a Westboro Baptist location in Topeka with rainbow colors and labeled it "Equality House," to advocate for an issue the cult specifically disagrees with.
The Westboro Baptist Church cult is notorious for protesting all kinds of events including soldiers' funerals, celebrity funerals and other functions which promote agendas that they disagree with. The group uses harsh words on their signs to convey a message of repentance that differs greatly from biblical evangelism.
