Let Justice Roll Rally and Service Draws 800
More than 800 onlookers and peoples of faith gathered for the strategically planned “Let Justice Roll” rally and service in Boston, on July 28, 2004. The service, held at the historic Old South Church, was purposely scheduled to coincide with the Democratic National Convention that was held concurrently in Boston.
“Let Justice Roll” is a faith-based initiative to make poverty a priority issue in the November presidential election. According to the Alliance to End Hunger, one of the principal sponsors of the Boston rally, some 89 percent of likely voters considered a candidate’s position on reducing hunger and poverty as an important factor in determining the choice. Other sponsors of the “Let Justice Roll: Faith and Community Voices Against Poverty” are the National Council of Churches (NCC), Bread for the World, the United Churches of Christ, Old South Church, Dunk the Vote and more than 20 local organizations under the Center for Community Change banner.
According to the NCC, some 300 in attendance were from the Democratic National Committee. Planners hope the next event, scheduled for August 31 in New York City – concurrent with the Republican Convention – will be as successful.
