LG Band Play: New Smartphone With 1-Watt Speaker

Korean manufacturer LG is bringing the first-ever smartphone with a 1-watt speaker to the market. The new phone, called LG Band Play, is joining the company's line of mid-range phones this week.

According to a report in Android Authority, the phone is said be focused on providing good audio quality as well as good cameras as well. It features a bass-reinforced 1-watt speaker which makes music, videos and games sound better on the new phone. Its cameras are also not one to be left behind. The main rear-facing camera is 13-megapixel, while its selfie front-facing camera is at 5-megapixel.

The main rear camera is also said to come with a wide-angle lens as well as the company's laser autofocus feature, which basically uses laser light to calculate the exact distance between the camera and the object one is taking a picture of.

A Tech Times report says that the new device is targeted to smartphone users who are also music aficionados, as they can expect "a rich and clear sound when playing music, movies or video games." As a bonus for those who purchase the new phone, it will also come with a pair of LG QuadBeat 3 earphones, the same earphones that ship with their latest flagship, the LG G4.

The phone's display has a 1280 x 720 resolution on a 5-inch screen. Under the hood, it is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core QualComm Snapdragon 410 processor with 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage is at 16 GB which is naturally expandable with a microSD slot. It has a removable battery with 2,300mAh capacity. It will be shipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop pre-installed.

With this phone, LG is introducing a new mode called "focus mode" which lets the user focus on what they are doing without the usual distractions that come with data-enabled services or activities. When this mode is one, it will not allow alarm notifications to go off as well as it will automatically reject phone calls.

Unfortunately, the phone is only available in LG's home market South Korea and there is no official word yet if it will see an international release. According to the Tech Times report however, Amazon may be able to offer the phone through its online store. It is priced at 394,800 Korean Won or about US $356 and is available in black and white color options only.
