LG G3 vs. iPhone 5s: Spec and Feature Comparison
The LG G3 recently hit stores and will compete against a slew of current flagship handsets including Apple's iPhone 5s.
LG's device differs greatly from Apple's handset when it comes to size, but competes on a more even playing field in other areas. Both of them also seem to fall around the same price point making them valid competitors. So which one is the better buy overall? Here is a brief spec by spec comparison of the two smartphones.
Display
The LG G3 comes with a 5.5-inch True HD LCD display with 2560 x 1440 resolution at 534 ppi. This is one of the most impressive displays to hit the market this year and it keeps a good pixel ratio despite its large size. The iPhone 5s packs a significantly smaller 4-inch display with 1136 x 640 resolution at 326 ppi. This is still pretty impressive considering the numbers are being applied to a much smaller screen. However, the G3 is definitely the better device for watching videos or playing games. The iPhone is better for portability and handling with one hand.
Processor
The iPhone 5s packs Apple's A7 chip with 64-bit architecture. It is definitely one of the fastest devices found on the market. However, the LG G3 is no slouch as it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB RAM. Apple employs a bit of a different strategy here making its phone the first 64-bit one to be released while LG pulled out the big guns with supreme specs that tower over most other Android competitors. LG might have a slight edge here thanks to increased RAM, but the iPhone 5s is still a quick and smooth device.
Camera
The iPhone 5s features an 8-megapixel camera with various extras such as True Tone flash for color correction, face detection, and a five element lens. The LG G3 comes with a 13-megapixel rear shooter the features autofocus, and dual-tone flash. Apple definitely has the advantage when it comes to the extras while LG might have the better numbers. LG's camera is definitely state of the art, while Apple's is a rehashing of a point and shooter it has been using since the iPhone 4s.
Design
The LG G3 features a beautiful metallic shiny exterior and comes in a couple of different colors. The iPhone 5s is made from a mix of metal and glass that allows for something that is very glossy and continues the line of premium looking Apple devices. I prefer the Apple design since it's tested well over time and looks a bit sharper. LG seemed to take a page out of HTC's book this go round and the latter company did a much better job.
Conclusion
The LG G3 is a powerhouse Android device that is up there with the HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5. The iPhone 5s is still a solid device that has its advantages, but it may not hold up too well against the smartphones set to debut this year. The iPhone 6 will definitely be a better match-up for the G3 as Apple is expected to increase the screen size and bring some other exciting features to the next-gen model.
