LG Super-Thin Gram Laptops vs Apple MacBook Air; Will it Be a Contest?
LG has launched its super-thin Gram laptops in the United States in a bid to compete with Apple's MacBook Air.
LG wants to challenge other companies with thin and light laptops by launching its own lineup of similar devices in the United States. The Gram lineup consists of 13-inch and 14-inch notebooks that weigh less than a kilogram, according to ZD Net.
The South Korean tech firm's Gram notebooks weigh just 2.16 lbs, which is significantly lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Air that weighs 2.96 lbs. The 11-inch MacBook Air is still heavier than LG's Grams, but the latest 12-inch MacBook weighs 2.03 lbs, the report details.

It is worth noting that some hands-on reviews say the build of the LG Grams lacks a bit in quality due to some hardware parts made of plastic. But the sacrifice was done to achieve the impressive lightness of the Gram laptops. The new LG devices also do not have backlit keys and an SD card slot. Nevertheless, the lineup's specs seem decent, Gizmodo reports.
The Grams sport a magnesium alloy chassis, an Intel Core i5 or i7 Broadwell processor with 8 GB of RAM, 1920 x 1080 IPS displays, 128 GB or 256 GB storage, and 64-bit Windows 10 Home edition. The LG Gram laptops are very light devices that are capable enough to handle most tasks. The new super-thin laptops are also powered by a battery that lasts more than seven hours, the report relays.
The 13-inch variant of the LG Gram is white in color and the cheaper device comes with a $899.99 price tag, while the Core i5 14-inch variant has a price tag of $999.99. The 14-inch variant, on the other hand, is available in champagne gold and costs $1,399.99.
For now, the new LG Gram laptops are available on Amazon. However, the 14-inch units have already been sold out, but will be made available from the Microsoft Store this week as part of a Signature Series without bloatware.
