LG Nitro HD Smartphone Review

The LG Nitro HD is the latest installment to AT&T’s new line of LTE ready smartphones. It follows up the Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket and HTC Vivid that were both released last month. The Christian Post has been able to review the new LG Nitro HD, and initial impressions are that LG has put out a fast and impressive smartphone capable of displaying video with great clarity, as well as filming with that same resolution on its camera.

Display

The LG Nitro HD packs a 4.5-inch HD display with a 720x1280 resolution. LG aimed to create a compact LTE handset with an impressive screen, and they seem to have accomplished that with this smartphone. Videos appear crystal clear with great definition and a good balance of brightness. It also allows the user to get an accurate HD look at what they are filming when using the device’s camcorder. YouTube videos contain great color when viewed on the Nitro. Its touchscreen also has a great response time, but froze up every once in awhile.

Design

The LG Nitro lacks in terms of presentation. The device’s backing sports a glossy appearance, but unfortunately it has a slippery feel. When held, the smartphone feels cheap compared to AT&T’s other 4G LTE devices. However, it is extremely light, which is a plus. The miniUSB and headphone jack along with the power button are all included on the top of the device. This makes for convenient access to each part. Its frame is less wide than other LTE devices such as the Skyrocket making handling much easier and texting more convenient. Pressing the wrong key will not happen as often as it would on other devices with the Nitro.

Speed

The LG Nitro HD comes equipped with a dual-core 1.5GHz processor that matches the Skyrocket in terms of speed. It easily outdoes the HTC Vivid and makes performing tasks quick and convenient. Many LTE devices include 1.2GHz processors and although it only seems like a small difference, a 1.5GHz chip makes using a smartphone that much more enjoyable.

Camera

The LG Nitro HD’s 8MP camera proves to be quite impressive when it comes to filming video. Not only can the user of the device view what they have shot in crystal clear HD resolution, but they can also see what they are filming in that same quality. Other LTE devices such as the Skyrocket appear dull when shooting film. The LG Nitro maintains the HD experience through and through. Picture taking on the Nitro is decent, but the colors appear somewhat dull. If you’re looking for a smartphone that can take beautiful photos than you might want to skip the Nitro since it seems to be this device’s focus is video clarity.

Battery Life

The LG Nitro HD does have some impressive battery life. With a full charge it can last at least a day-and-a-half with moderate usage including gaming and watching videos. When the device was left alone, this phone’s battery lasted for three days.

Conclusion

The LG Nitro is a fast LTE smartphone with an impressive display. It does not quite top the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, however it does match it in terms of speed and video. The main factor in choosing one of these devices would be price since both are extremely efficient.
