Liberal, Moderate, Conservative Presbyterians to Gather for Prayer and Repentance
The Presbyterian Coalition (PC), one of the largest reformed groups within the Presbyterian Church (USA), will host a conference designed to invite the church the whole church to pray and repent together.
The event, titled Repent & Believe: A Call to Repentance and Prayer is a national gathering slated for March 17-19, 2005, at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas. It will feature messages delivered by keynote speakers, spiritual workshops, and the invitation and inspiration to prayer.
The main preachers for the gathering will be the Rev. Craig Barnes, a professor at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and pastor of Pittsburghs Shadyside Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Cynthia Campbell, the president of McCormick Seminary in Chicago.
But perhaps the most significant aspect of the event is the mere chance for Presbyterian leaders from all rungs of the theological spectrum to come together for repentance individually and corporately.
The planning team is purposefully comprised of Coalition leadership, other church leaders not associated with the Coalition, indeed others with whom we are often in disagreement, and leaders of racial/ethnic caucuses, the PCs invitation to the event read.
Participants will include the liberal-minded Covenant Network a group whose theological stances often clash with the Coalition.
