Lil Wayne Receives 9 Stitches After Skateboarding Accident

Rapper Lil Wayne was rushed to a St. Louis-area hospital on Sunday after injuring his head in a local skateboard park.

According to the Associated Press, the rapper was in St. Louis over the weekend to perform a show at the outdoor Verizon Amphitheatre. During the trip he visited a local skateboard park where he gashed his head.

Lil Wayne and his entourage showed up on Sunday to DePaul Health Center’s emergency room where he received nine stitches for the cut, according to KTVI-TV.

The rapper tweeted some information about the accident to his fans.

“The Lou was good but I busted my… head at the sk8park! 9stiches! Gnarly gash over my left eye! Luv the people,” he wrote.

Lil Wayne was in St. Louis as part of his “I Am Still Music Tour,” which included other artists such as Rick Ross, Keri Hilson, Lloyd and Far East Movement.

The rapper is only one week away from releasing his highly anticipated “Tha Carter IV” album.

In recent news Lil Wayne announced he will be making the album available for download directly after MTV’s 2011 Video Music Awards air, which he is also scheduled to perform at.

“I am extremely excited to be the first artist to utilize such an amazing idea. I hope I can open the door for others,” said Lil Wayne in a press statement.

The rapper plans on using the VMAs to make music fans more aware of his album release.

“The MTV Video Music Awards are one of the most watched and respected shows in the industry,” said Ronald Williams, the CEO of Cash Money Records in a statement. “Wayne is one of the most respected and prolific artists in the industry. By pairing the release of Tha Carter IV with the VMAs, it will certainly add to the overall anticipation and excitement for fans everywhere for what will surely be an unforgettable evening.”

“The Carter IV” will be available on iTunes, Amazon and other legal music downloading destinations at 12 a.m. on August 29.

The physical CD version of the album will be released on that day also.

“The Carter IV” will have guest appearances by other artists such as John Legend, Nas, Jadakiss and recently deported rapper turned orthodox Jew, Shyne.
