Lisa Ling Pregnant With Baby Girl
TV journalist Lisa Ling had a big scoop for Anderson Cooper when she appeared on his talk show Wednesday. She and husband Paul Song are expecting their first child, a baby girl.
"I was trying to keep it quiet for a long time, but now I'm starting to get to the point where it looks like I'm starting to get this big beer belly," Ling explained. At that point, a picture of Ling's sonogram filled the screens behind her and Cooper.
"Look at the ultrasound!" she exclaimed. "This is my crazy baby actually jumping around in my stomach. I was so terrified I called the doctor, and I'm like, 'Are you sure it's normal?'"
Ling's pregnancy is especially poignant, given the emotional pain she went through just two years ago after suffering a miscarriage.
"It was a fluke," she told her audience on "The View." "But as someone who fancies herself as competent, when the doctor said, 'You lost it,' I thought, 'Oh my God, what did I do?' I felt like such a failure."
The loss of her child led Ling and friend Sophia Kim to create a website for women to anonymously talk about the tough issues they might not otherwise.
"Sharing and reading what other women are going through helped me," Ling noted.
Ling's baby girl will be joining a loving family that includes her aunt, Laura Ling, who became famous after being taken prisoner in North Korea. Former President Bill Clinton helped secure her release and was given the honor of sharing Laura's baby girl's middle name. Lisa's little girl will have cousin Li Jefferson Clayton, named after Lisa and William Jefferson Clinton, to run around with once she is born.
This will be the first child for Ling and husband Paul Song.
