LL Cool J and Whitney Houston Prayer Praised by Fans
The Grammy Awards offered what many are calling a fitting tribute following the announcement of Whitney Houston's death Saturday. LL Cool J, serving as the Grammy host, opened up the ceremony in prayer to honor the famed singer, causing many to applaud his actions and call it a fitting way to set the tempo for the event.
LL Cool J did not hesitate to begin the 2012 Grammy Award ceremony by addressing an issue that appeared to be playing heavily on many hearts in the audience.
"There's no way around it," the rapper began. "We've had a death in our family," he said. "For me, the only thing that feels right is to begin with a prayer for a woman who we love, for our fallen sister, Whitney Houston."
It was a touching moment during the Grammy's as the entire audience appeared to bow their heads in prayer.
LL Cool J began: "Heavenly father, we thank you for sharing our sister Whitney with us. Today our thoughts are with her mother, her daughter and all of her loved ones. And although she is gone too soon, we remain truly blessed to have been touched by her beautiful spirit, and to have the legacy of her music to cherish and share forever. Amen."
While some found the prayer offensive, most applauded LL Cool J for what they considered to be a very respectful decision. "Yes not everyone is religious, but Whitney was," Bobo wrote on the Just Jared blog. "She went to church and believed in God. He clearly said for HIM, he thought it was appropriate. You could have changed the channel before he started."
Another user also supported the prayer. "The whole Country could use more prayer at this time more than ever since Faith is under attack by our govt and the media," GHU wrote.
UGH added that most celebrities also chose to bow their head out of respect for the singer, "I think it was very touching and appropriate. Whitney started in the church and even if all those artist where not religious most bowed their head to show respect," the user stated. "Good job LL Cool, his words were appropriate for Ms. Houston and her family. May they find peace in the difficult days ahead," LoriLori said.
