'Logan's Run' Remake to Be Written by Simon Kinberg
Another science fiction film is getting a remake. This time, it's the 1976 "Logan's Run," a science fiction film about a dystopian society whose way of dealing with overpopulation and its stress on society's resources is to kill citizens by the time they reach the age of 30. The remake has long been in the works, but it recently got a big jumpstart when Warner Bros. found the film a writer.
Simon Kinberg, who is also known for his work in superhero films like "Fantastic Four," "X-Men: Apocalypse," and "Deadpool," as well as his work in the Star Wars cinematic universe including the Anthology films, has been hired by Warner Bros. to come up with the treatment for the remake.
Aside from coming up with the story treatment, Kinberg will also be producing along with Joel Silver. The full script, the report said, will be handled by another writer to be hired later on.
According to another report in The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has been trying to take the remake the film from the ground up since year 2000. Several writers have been attached to the film and several attempts have been made to come up with a script based on the original movie. These included Alex Garland, Will Beall and Christopher McQuarrie. Bryan Singer and Nicolas Winding Refn were once attached to direct. Even Ryan Gosling was rumored to be part of the cast in 2010.
The 1976 film which starred Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Farrah Fawcett was an adaptation of a 1967 novel of the same title by William Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. York plays the role of Logan 5, an enforcer turned "runner," as he tries to outrun society's rules. He meets a group of underground "runners" along the way.
The remake does not have a definite timeline and given this, it is not yet known whether it will go beyond this stage of early development.
