Logitech Bridge Release Date, Specs News: VR Keyboard Makes HTC Vive Typing Easier
In the quest to advance virtual reality applications, Logitech has launched the Bridge software development kit for the HTC Vive headset. The system allows app developers circumvent the problem associated with text entry in VR.
Inputting text in VR is possible with the use of a physical keyboard. However, developers have noted that the experience does not feel natural and constantly positioning fingers on an actual keyboard is quite difficult. Given that a keyboard is crucial to certain tasks, Logitech collaborated with the HTC Vive team to improve the experience.
The Logitech Bridge SDK includes a Logitech G gaming keyboard, a Vive Tracker accessory, and software, with an overall value is $150. The kit will work in conjunction with the HTC Vive headset ($599) and a Vive Tracker disk ($99).

With this kit, a virtual keyboard will be positioned on top of the physical keyboard. The virtual representation of the keyboard appears automatically and delivers complete animations when pressed. As such, developers will be able to easily input text with tactile feedback without having to take out their VR headset in order to see the actual keyboard.
The Logitech Bridge kit is compatible with all applications based on the SteamVR system.
VR also allows the keyboard to be customized with regard to fonts, font size, keyboard skins and key color, among others. Developers can also learn certain commons or shortcuts that can make the experience more efficient.
Logitech is currently in the beta stage of the Bridge SDK, and there are only 50 slots in the initial phase of this developers program. Applications will be open until Nov. 16, and those interested can register here.
Through this program, Logitech aims to address possible issues when it comes to high-fidelity accuracy and the setup configuration. The ultimate goal is to make the VR keyboard available commercially.
