Looking Back at Iraq

With the first anniversary of the start of the Iraq war coming up in two weeks, Christians around the world scheduled peace vigils to take stock, mourn the dead, to pray for all those affected by the war and to give strength to those leading missions in the war torn country.

The above pictures depict several evangelical Southern Baptist Convention members who went to Iraq, alongside hundreds of Christians from several denominations and humanitarian groups, to provide both physical and spiritual food to those in need. The members took part in the historical establishment of the first evangelical Baptist church in Baghdad, on January 17. More than 700 people from around the world attended the dedication service of the National Evangelical Baptist Church in Baghdad, and prayed that the church will be a “cornerstone on which future Baptist work in Iraq will be built.”
