The Mavericks were public about their attempts to sign DeAndre Jordan from the Clippers to help them regain the elite status in the Western Conference.

Many believed that it was bound to happen and the Mavericks even went as far as to reveal that they were about to sign the center.

In making that happen, the Mavericks made room for Jordan, letting go of veteran center Tyson Chandler to ensure that Jordan would take the starting center role for the team.

However, in the trade deadline, things started to fall apart as it was revealed that Jordan was in his home with other Los Angeles Clippers players and they barred the center from speaking to anyone connected to the Mavericks organization.

Dallas owner Mark Cuban even went as far as going around the city looking for Jordan in order to complete the deal they had previously agreed on.

However, time elapsed and they were unable to sign Jordan, meaning that he would stay with the Clippers – later admitting that he never really wanted to leave in the first place.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are left scrambling for new players as a big gap in their team was left with the absence of Chandler and Jordan not replacing him in the middle.

This divided a lot of fans of the league and has now started a possible rivalry between the two teams.

Los Angeles kept Jordan and added new pieces to go along with the core of Blake Griffin and Chris Paul to make the Clippers a real threat.

On the other hand, the Mavericks acquired new players like Deron Williams and Wesley Matthews to team up with veteran Dirk Nowitzki in an attempt to get back to the playoff fold.

Expect a heated match between the two teams from tip-off to the last buzzer.
