LA Lakers NBA Trade Rumors: Nick Young Still Undecided on Player Option for Next Season
Nick Young has been picking up a lot of did not play-coach's decisions (DNP-CDs) in the past few weeks as the Los Angeles Lakers give their young players more court time. The team finally announced that they were shutting him down for the rest of the season earlier this week and now it's time for him to think about his future.
Young has a $5.7 million player option for next season and he could stay in Los Angeles if he wants to. But in an interview with Mark Medina of the Orange County Register, Young said he still has not decided what he wants to do next season.
"I got a chance to play and show Nick Young again after going through everything I went through. That's the best part of everything, being able to play. You think you won't be in the league last year. Then you start 60 games," Young said during the interview. "I'm a wanted man now," he added.
Young noted that he prefers to stay in Los Angeles, though, since it's his hometown. With Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka in charge, the Lakers will look to turn things around next season. But Young may not have a place in the team if they continue to develop their young players, so he will have to see what they are planning to do first before he makes a decision.
"It's tough. There's new management and you don't know what's going to happen. The Lakers are going to do something this offseason, of course. So we'll wait and see what their options are," Young said, according to Orange County Register.
Young played poorly last season, but he managed to get back on track this year. Young averaged 13.2 points in 60 games and he did it while shooting a respectable 40.4 percent from the three-point line.
