Los Angeles Pro-Life March Expects to Draw Thousands

Thousands of people are expected to join the March for Life in the streets of downtown Los Angeles next Sunday.

LOS ANGELES – Thousands of people are expected to join the March for Life in the streets of downtown Los Angeles next Sunday.

The Los Angeles Archdiocese Commission for Catholic Life Issues and Hispanics for Life are sponsoring the 2006 Los Angeles March for Life/Life Chain on Jan. 22. Thousands will gather at the Los Angeles Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels to march with pro-life signs and pray for an end to abortion.

"The 2006 Life Chain will be a reflection of the cultural diversity of the Catholic Church which is uniting in prayer to end the 33-year slaughter of our unborn brothers and sisters,” stated Astrid Bennett Gutierrez, board member of Hispanics for Life, in a news release. “Hispanics in particular are overwhelmingly pro-life."

Bishop Edward Clark, Auxiliary Bishop of the Our Lady of the Angels region of the Los Angeles Archdiocese, will open the event with a pro-life prayer and statement.

Los Angeles’ Catholic leaders have voiced their support of the pro-life event.

“Life Chain is a way to make the proclamation [that] to be human is to be called to protect life and to promote human dignity," said Cardinal Roger Mahony, Archbishop of Los Angeles, to Hispanics for Life.

The Auxiliary Bishop Alexander Salazar stated that "the Life Chain is one of the most appropriate means of demonstrating our appreciation for the sacredness of human life [and] will help save moms and babies from abortion."

Pro-life signs will be held in both English and Spanish with messages saying, "Abortion Kills Children" and "Jesus Forgives and Heals."
