Los Angeles Rams NFL Trade Rumors: Trumaine Johnson Will Stay for Now
Trumaine Johnson may have become the highest-paid cornerback in the league after he signed his $16.7-million franchise tender last month, but that didn't stop the Los Angeles Rams from dangling him as trade bait. However, they have failed to find a trade partner for Johnson and they may no longer be planning to move him this season.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has reported that a source told him Johnson was staying put this season. Well, trading him was going to be difficult anyway because of his huge salary. Teams obviously don't want to give up a lot to acquire a player who has yet to make an All-Pro team.
Meanwhile, the cornerback took part in the Rams' voluntary veteran minicamp on Tuesday and he told reporters that he was glad to be part of the team.

"I'm glad to be a Ram, point-blank. Coming out here, it's a privilege to play football. I'm glad I'm on the team and I'm with the Rams," said Johnson after practice, via to ESPN. "Of course. I love these guys. I'm here because I love my teammates. I don't want to leave. Hopefully we get a long-term deal," he continued.
Johnson also mentioned that he was willing to sit down and negotiate a long-term deal with the team.
"Of course. We've got time right now, he said, according to the Orange County Register. "That's not my main focus. I'm going to let my agent handle that. In the meantime, I'll get to know the new guys and get back with the old guys," he added.
Rams general manager Les Snead talked about the cornerback during a press conference on Tuesday and he confirmed that Johnson would be part of the team this season. However, Snead also noted that the Rams might still draft a cornerback even if Johnson is available.
