Los Angeles Shooting News: What Are Bump Stocks?
The U.S. was rocked recently when a serial gambler committed the deadliest shooting incident in Las Vegas, leaving at least 58 dead. Since then, bump stock has been the talk of the town, with some wondering what it is and how dangerous it can get.
A bump stock is defined as an equipment that basically transforms a semi-automatic weapon into an automatic one. It comes in the form of a piece of plastic or metal that is molded to the lower end of a rifle, allowing a shooter to fire dozens in seconds. When a rifle is installed with a bump stock, its magazine has the capacity to hold up to a hundred rounds of bullets and the shooter is able to push his rifle away from his body so his rifle could bounce into the trigger finger and fire more at a time, just like an automatic weapon.

Using a bump stock allows a firing weapon to shoot several people at a time although it makes hitting specific targets difficult because of the simulated automatic fire. Because of their mechanism, the U.S. government does not regulate bump stocks. After the mass shooting in Las Vegas, one of the country's leading sellers of bump stocks, Slide Fire, revealed that the device was out of stock because of the extremely high demand for it.

On Wednesday, gun control advocate Sen. Dianne Feinstein laid down a legislation banning the import, sale, manufacturing, transfer, and possession of bump stocks in the U.S., and the White House was quick to express its support for it. According to Feinstein, the only reason someone modifies a gun with a bump stock is to kill more people at a time, so it's clear why it should be banned.
In a separate statement, the spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders of the White House said, "We welcome that and a conversation on that... It's something we're very open to. It's something we want to be part of the conversation on going forward," referring to the proposed bump stock ban.
