Lost Homework Leads to Boy Being Arrested for Burglary

A teenage boy in upstate New York probably did not think that losing his homework would get him in trouble with anyone else other than his teacher. But the boy may have a new excuse as to why he does not have his homework for class; he dropped it during a burglary.

Police in the village of Liberty tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown that officers used math homework to track down a boy suspected of breaking into an auction house Saturday night.

It all started when the owner of an auction house arrived to work Sunday morning and noticed that a window was missing.

When he began to look around the auction house he noticed some items were not where they should have been. He then took stock of the items in the auction house and he realized that some jewelry, cell phones, video games along with other items were missing.

The storeowner called police and they arrived to investigate. As they looked around outside, detectives found some schoolwork that had been inadvertently left nearby in the woods behind the auction house. The school papers had the student’s name on them.

After locating the boy’s home, police found the stolen items in his possession. He was arrested and charged with burglary.

The boy should have no problem coming up with an excuse for his lost homework though he may be wishing his dog ate it.

The youth has been charged with felony burglary in the third degree. His case is being handled in Sullivan County Family Court in Liberty New York.

Mid-Hudson news reported that the Liberty Village Police are still investigating and more arrests may still be possible.
