'Love & Hip Hop' Benzino Thanks God and Late Mother After Being Shot by Nephew at Funeral (VIDEO)
"Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" star Benzino recently thanked God and his late mother for saving his life following a shooting on Saturday.
The VH1 star, born Raymond Scott, 48, was shot by his nephew, Gai Scott, while attending his mother's funeral in Duxbury, Mass. over the weekend. The pair were reportedly embroiled in a family dispute which provoked the shooting and Benzino took to his personal Instagram page on Sunday after being admitted to South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth to update fans on his condition.
"Feel much better, GOD IS REAL @luvheraltheaheart is my SOULMATE....... MY MOTHER TOUCHED ME, IM CERTAIN," he wrote to his 180,000 followers alongside a photo taken from his hospital bed.
Benzino was driving in the procession to St. Peter's church when Scott, 36, pulled alongside him in another vehicle and opened fire. The reality star, who is the former owner of hip-hop magazine The Source, suffered non-fatal injuries and Scott was arrested and charged with armed assault and intent to murder, according to WHDH.
One report claims Benzino was shot in his right arm with another claiming that his back was grazed by a bullet. Scott will be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Monday and Benzino will likely be released from hospital on Tuesday.
"No one wants to put (their family) through that ... but I look at it like she (his mother) is the guardian angel that got me through it," he said.
The funeral was for Mary Scott, who passed away on March 20. Father William Williams presided over the ceremony and resumed it despite the incident.
"I said to one of the guys: 'There's blood on the hearse.' There was an incident along the way," Williams told WHDH. "The family was there. They were mourning somebody they loved who died so they didn't want to talk cops and robbers."
The drama will likely be featured on the upcoming third season of "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta," which premieres in May.
Benzino's VH1 co-star and business partner Steven "Stevie J" Jordan paid him a hospital visit upon learning about the shooting.
Reports claim he has the highest net worth ($10 million) amongst the show's cast members, with Stevie J coming in at second place ($5 million).
