LPEA to Hold Festival in Fiji this Week
Tens of thousands are expected to join ''Fiji-Fest,'' which will begin this Friday, Sept. 10
World-Renown Evangelist Luis Palau will be heading to the island of Fiji for a national evangelistic festival expected to draw tens of thousands of Fijians to the capital of Suva. The Luis Palau Evangelistic Association reports that “Fiji-Fest,” slated for Sept. 10-11, “aims for impact in the a tropical paradise where, beneath the surface, the nation and its people are hurting.”
After receiving an invitation from church and governmental leaders, the Luis Palau and the Association have been preparing for a two-day festival of “Great music! Good news!” as well as a Veggie Tales children’s area, an extreme sports zone, an island cultural fair, a festival choir, and a spiritual leadership conference.
Palau festival events, with their “cutting-edge” approach and unique style, have drawn as many as 300,000 people in the U.S. and as many as one million overseas, while recent festivals have attracted tens of thousands, including 140,000 in Portland, OR; 125,000 in New England; 100,000 in Boise, ID; 55,000 in Santa Cruz, CA; 210,000 in Cordoba, Argentina; one million in Buenos Aires, Argentina; 300,000 Fort Lauderdale, FL. and 310,000 in Mar de Plata, Argentina.

This week, the Palau Association, in partnership with ministries such as the Sentinel Group and Citireach International, is sending more than 200 Christians from Australia, Great Britain, and the United States to build Habitat for Humanity homes, work on village construction projects, conduct free medical clinics, do street ministry, lead backyard Bible clubs, and help Fijians start their own businesses to combat poverty and unemployment.
Evangelists working through LPEA’s Next Generation Alliance in five smaller cities on the islands of Viti Levu and Vua Levu, will lead regional evangelistic crusades.
“Four years ago civil unrest, ethnic division, and a military coup crippled the country and severely tested the friendly Fijian spirit,” LPEA stated in news release.
One travel guide reported to LPEA, “Fiji on the inside is certainly no paradise.”
LPEA stated, “Desperate for solutions, people are turning to God and eager for the Good News message of peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation in Jesus Christ.”
The Association is praying that “God will use these ministries of compassion and the proclamation of the Gospel to lead thousands of Fijians to Jesus Christ and put the nation on a path to paradise” during Fiji-Fest.
