Luigi Mangione: 5 things to know about alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killer
2. 'Shook' as police apprehended him
When police in Altoona, Pennsylvania, responded to a tip from an employee at a McDonald's in the town, Mangione was "visibly shaking" as law enforcement approached him and questioned him, according to the police report. When asked for ID, he reportedly offered them the fake ID that he used to check into a New York hostel shortly before Thompson's murder, according to investigators.
Upon searching his belongings, local Altoona police also discovered a U.S. passport, clothes that matched the gunman's description, a 3D-printed pistol with a suppressor weapon, and a three-page handwritten note, according to CBS News.
“We didn't think twice about it, we knew it was our guy,” Altoona Police Officer Tyler Frye said, according to the outlet.
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said that Mangione appeared to possess animosity toward corporate America, based on his alleged writings.
"We don't think there's any specific threats to others mentioned in that document, but it does seem he has some ill will toward corporate America," he said.
As he was led into court in Blair County, Pennsylvania, for his extradition hearing on Tuesday, Mangione attempted to yell at the media. "It's completely out of touch, and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and its lived experience," he appeared to scream as officers physically restrained him.
