Luis Palau Visits Capitol Hill

Evangelist Luis Palau went to Washington in this past month to connect with representatives of the 200+ churches that are considering a possible Luis Palau festival in the nation’s capitol.

During his visit, he also met with members of Congress and the president of the National Religious Broadcasters, and he shared morning devotions with Attorney General John Ashcroft and members of his staff.

Over 500 pastors and staff joined the Palau team at two luncheons to hear Luis’ vision to bring the Good News to the Capitol Mall. The group heard testimonies of support from key committee people involved with last year’s Beachfest Fort Lauderdale, including co-chairs Wayne Huizenga and Wayne Cotton, Pastor Mark Davis, and Rev.G.V. Lewis.

A business leadership dinner at the Watergate complex provided an opportunity for the business community to hear the opportunities of a DC festival.

The team also met with Frank Wright, NRB President, who invited the group to join him in the Attorney General’s office for their regular morning devotions. A trip to the offices of Congress followed, with Luis meeting first with Senator John Ensign of Nevada and then Missouri Senator Jim Talent. Senator Ensign is Honorary Chair of the upcoming Reno Festival. Both legislators offered strong support for a festival in the DC area.

Palau's next event, the Reno Festival, will be held June 11-12 at the Washoe County Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. The event will feature music from artists like Steven Curtis Chapman, Kirk Franklin, Mercy Me, tobyMac, Point of Grace, Jump 5, and Audio Adrenaline.
