Chapman was sent back to Russia from the United States spy swap in 2010, after it was reported that she had become dangerously close to an official in the Obama administration.

Other reports have also linked Chapman to Putin in addition to other women, including Russian Olympic gold medallist Alina Kabayeve, according to the Daily Mail.

In 2008 rumors also spread that Putin was considering a divorce. The rumors appeared to be some of the first, after years of Putin successfully keeping his personal life out of the limelight. Putin has proudly boasted that his daughters still remain unknown to members of the press.

Such matters remain "off limits" to Russian media, according to Times magazine.

Now however, Putin has been drawing significant attention to himself. His name appears to have circulated in a number of online publications, many of which have linked him to having affairs with different women. His wife has also mysteriously disappeared from the public eye and has not been seen since election day on March 4.
