Macbook Air 2014 Release Date: Apple to Launch New Air October 2014?
Rumors that Apple has been working on a thinner Macbook started circulating last year, and now, there are speculations that the new Macbook Air will be released in an Apple event this month, specifically on Oct. 16. This is also the date when the Cupertino company will reportedly announce the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 and the new OS X Yosemite.
The new laptop, also dubbed as the Macbook Air Retina, is said to include a 12-inch Retina display and will come in gold, silver and space grey finishes.
Jack Marsh, a 16-year old blogger who appears to have a reliable source with information on the new Macbook Air, claims that his source told him that the new design is so slim that Apple had to switch to a reversible USB Type C connector, which is a lot smaller than the USB 3.

Moreover, the laptop is said to be thinner than the existing Macbook Air, and that because it will use Intel's new Intel Core M processor — a chip that doesn't need fans — it's highly possible that the Air Retina will only be 9mm thin.
But while the initial rumors point to a 2014 launch, the release of the Macbook Air Retina will ultimately depend on the availability of the Core M chips. According to Motley Fool, the first wave of the new chips were initially scheduled to launch in early 2014, but was delayed until late 2014.
In a previous statement, Intel has announced that the "broader OEM" availability wouldn't be until early 2015, so there is a possibility that the Macbook Air Retina will be released during the first quarter of next year.
