'Mad Max 2' News, Cast, Spoilers: Will Furiosa Be Back in the Sequel?
''Mad Max: Fury Road" was an understated hit of the summer. Despite having fewer promotions than other films, it still became a blockbuster that grossed $374.7 million worldwide. It's no surprise that a follow-up was quickly discussed due to the rarity of a non-superhero movie hitting a $300 million earning benchmark. Now, the director of the first film, George Miller, is already planning a trilogy and is just waiting for a thumbs-up from Warner Bros.
Of course, if the trilogy does happen, it is already expected that Tom Hardy will be reprising his role as Max Rockatansky, since the story does revolve around him. However, despite the audience witnessing the story of Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron, wrap up in the first film, there has been strong desire to see Theron reprise her role. The reason behind this is that many saw the possibility of Theron's commanding performance taking the lead sometime in the movie.
Miller, who recently spoke with Digital Spy, was asked about Furiosa's comeback in any follow-up movies. Despite Miller's answer revealing the possibility of Furiosa's return, it may not be as much as fans hope for. Miller shared, "I'm not sure, is the answer. She's not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there's an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can't really say more than that because it's still in progress."
Not only has Furiosa's story come to a close in the "Fury Road" but the franchise itself is not interested in intertwined story lines and prefers to introduce Max in a new situation every time. Many hope that since the film is still being developed that there will be a chance for Furiosa's return; however, as of now, only Hardy is known to have multiple film contracts for "Mad Max."
For now, there is no confirmation yet for the production of "Mad Max 2;" however, "Mad Max: Fury Road" is readily available on Blu-Ray.
