'Madam Secretary' Season 2 Spoilers Rumors: Morgan Freeman in the Director Seat and Henry Meets His New Handler
Morgan Freeman is no stranger to authoritative roles. Having played God and the president of the United States in a number of films, it's not surprise why anyone — with only a few projects under their belt — who would have the task of directing him would feel a little intimidated. It's a relief, though, that Freeman himself directed the premiere of "Madam Secretary" after 22 years of stepping away from the director's set.
The 78-year-old was pulled back into the task after his producing partner, Lori McCreary, convinced him to do so. He says, "She likes the way I function on set and I like it, too. I had fun doing it." McCreary also shared, "It's a lovely experience to be with someone who enjoys the process of making film as much as Morgan does. When he's the leader, everyone jumps in line and follows suit and it feels extraordinary."
According to USA Today, unlike other directors, Freeman's directing approach to the actors under him is a bit more different. He goes, "You don't hire them to tell them how this character is supposed to be played. You hire them to do it themselves. So, stay out of the way." Further adding, "I think part of the joy for actors working with directors who are actors is how much security there is, freedom to act, freedom to be."
As for the latest scoop on the premiere, the recent exclusive clip released by Yahoo! shows that Henry (Tim Daly) will be taken to a NSA safehouse. There, he is introduced to Jane Fellows, who wants to vet one of his students, a super patriotic Russian student, who Jane hopes will change sides. Henry is quite unhappy with this. Show creator Barbara Hall shares, "I think [there's going to be] a little bit of headbutting, because it's an odd relationship, to be brought into the world of intelligence and just how that works. Henry, not unlike Elizabeth, is a bit of a reluctant participant. I think he understands the value of it, and he's good at it. But it's always a bit of a strange situation for him to find himself in, just adjusting to what the nature of the relationship is with people you work with in a job where you have to keep secrets and have secrets kept from you."
