Madeleine McCann Missing Latest News Update 2017: Detectives Hunt 'Person of Significance'

A "person of significance" in the investigation on the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is now being hunted by detectives.

According to The Times, a source close to Operation Grange, which refers to Scotland Yard's search for McCann, says that finding this individual is part of the "critical lines of inquiry" for the investigation.

No further details were provided regarding this development, but the same source said that they are pushing for this since "it is as much to rule the person out of the inquiry as anything else."

The authorities were recently granted £154,000 to continue the operation. A representative of the Home Office, which granted the application for the additional funding, had this to say, per The Guardian:

Following an application from the Metropolitan police, the Home Office has confirmed funding for Operation Grange until the end of March 2018. As with all applications, the resources required are reviewed regularly and careful consideration is given.

In a post on the official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page, McCann family spokesperson Clarence Mitchell stated that McCann's parents Kate and Gerry "are extremely thankful to the Metropolitan Police for requesting extra funding."

They are very encouraged there remains work to be done that requires them seeking an extra budget. They are hoping naturally, it will be granted.

They are grateful to all those officers who are still working on the case and are actively looking for Madeleine.

They appreciate everything the police have done and are doing to get a resolution after all this time.

McCann went missing in May 2007 during a vacation with her family in Praia de Luz, Portugal. Only three at that time, she was left sleeping in a hotel with her sisters after her parents went out for dinner.

Kate and Garry vowed to do everything in their power to find their daughter, who will be about 14 by now.
