Magic Johnson Son Reveals He Is Gay: Earvin Johnson III Comes Out Publicly With Partner (VIDEO)
Magic Johnson's son has revealed publicly that he is gay. Earvin Johnson III, one of Johnson's three children, walked out with his gay partner on Los Angeles Sunset Strip on Monday night, according to reports.
It is reportedly the first time that Earvin has been so public about his sexuality, and is the first time he has openly stepped out with his homosexual partner.
Johnson's 20 year old son, Earvin, is a student at New York University. Johnson and his wife, Earlitha Kelly, have stepped out to offer their support to their son: "Cookie and I love EJ and support him in every way," according to celebrity news website TMZ.
Magic Johnson famously announced that he was HIV positive in 1991, sparking rumors about his own sexuality. He has since spoken out for gay rights numerous times over the past two decades.
In 2008, the former Los Angeles Lakers player publicly spoke out against California's Proposition 8, which sought to ban any redefinition from the orthodox meaning of marriage as between one man and one woman.
In a recent special article to The Christian Post, Penny Nance, the president of Concerned Women for America (CWA) and CWALAC, highlighted that the the issue of gay marriage is one that deeply divides the country, and even breaks political lines. She highlighted that according to The Associated Press exit polls in 2008, "70 percent of African-Americans who voted for Barack Obama as president in California also voted for Proposition 8, the state constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union between one man and one woman. More than half of Hispanics, a group much coveted by both parties, also came down firmly on the side of traditional marriage."
In that piece she added: "The same-sex marriage issue cannot be summarized in a sound bite, which is why the mainstream media does such a poor job of presenting it. If just one line is what is needed, then I would say have to say this: 'We love our homosexual neighbors very deeply and, therefore, we would never lie to them, but we will speak the truth in every area of public policy, including marriage'."
"The bottom line is that marriage is special union created as a holy covenant between man, woman, and God. It is the best institution by which our children are conceived. Marriage identifies the recognizable authority of a mother and a father who are ordained with the responsibility of rearing the future generation. We could never grant these same responsibilities to two heterosexuals who simply live together, because marriage is more than a living arrangement. All the love in the world can't make a mother into a father and a father into a mother. In a free country, everyone is free to live and love as they choose, but no one is entitled to redefine marriage for all of us."
