'Making a Murderer' Steven Avery's Lawyer Names Another New Suspect

The Netflix true crime series "Making a Murderer" is in the middle of filming its second season. The documentary remains its focus on Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey's case in the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005. Another twist recently sprung, however, as Avery's lawyer pointed to a new suspect.

Avery's attorney Kathleen Zellner filed a new motion on Nov. 1 citing Bobby Dassey as the real killer. He's the older brother of Brendan, who has been in prison for the last decade as Avery's alleged accomplice in Halbach's death.

Zellner implied that the Dassey brothers' mom, Barb, and her husband, Scott Tadych, hid evidence from the cops to implicate Avery. The lawyer cited that Bobby's laptop revealed disturbing details of violent pornography, which Avery's original lawyers learned too late in his trial.

"The [women in the] violent pornographic images on the Dassey computer are strikingly similar in appearance to [Teresa Halbach]," Zellner told Rolling Stones. "The viewer – whom we believe is Bobby – has a morbid fascination with the death of young women plus torture, rape, pedophilia etc."

The courts of Wisconsin denied Zellner's request for Avery's new trial last October when she previously cited Halbach's boyfriend as the killer. She then filed another motion that claimed the photographer was still alive after she visited Avery's property for a feature on her magazine but the police no longer followed through on these details.

Zellner said Brendan wrote in his affidavit about Bobby telling him he saw Halbach leaving Avery's place that night of her supposed disappearance. The lawyer also pointed out Bobby lied to the police because he said he has not seen Halbach before. Bobby has not responded to Zellner's latest allegations.

Meanwhile, details to "Making a Murderer" season 2's premiere on Netflix have not been confirmed. Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos continue to film the latest development. The first season still streams on the platform.
