Man of Steel 2 News, Rumors: Batman Almost Went to Josh Brolin (VIDEO Teaser Trailer)
Before Ben Affleck was cast as the next Batman in the latest installment of the "Man of Steel" series, "Men in Black 3" star Josh Brolin was almost the newest Dark Knight.
Brolin confirmed that he had been up for the part before talks fell through but said he felt okay about the outcome.
"We did. I didn't have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn't turn out. It's OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I'm happy for Ben," Brolin told The Huffington Post.
The announcement that Affleck would be playing Batman opposite Henry Cavill's Superman in Zack Snyder's upcoming superhero sequel caused DC Comic fans to take to social media to express their surprise and vent their frustration.
Some fans even created a petition to remove Affleck from the part.
Brolin expressed empathy for Affleck being the target of the Internet's rage.
"I've never seen such a global reaction in my life," Brolin said. "I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It's like, '---- this guy, I wish he was dead.' And you're like, 'What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He's doing the same thing you are. He's trying to make the best choices he can," he said.
The actor also encouraged the new Bruce Wayne to silence complainers.
"I think I might have said that like 15 years ago, but now, because of the Internet, man, I just feel for anybody who gets lambasted at that level. I want him to kick --- and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words," said Brolin.
