Man Shoots Self in Leg at Gun Show

A man attending a local gun show in Georgia who apparently had an itchy trigger finger accidentally shot himself in the leg Sunday evening.

Police are reporting that 26-year-old Charles Lake from Rincon was leaving the gun show which was being held at the Savannah Civic Center. At approximately 5:10 p.m., the weapon which was in his possession while he was re-loading the firearm suddenly discharged a round that went into his own leg.

Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller said that Lake had bought the pistol at the gun show the day before. Lake returned to the gun show on Sunday in an attempt to purchase another firearm.

According to reports Lake was re-loading his pistol while he was in the parking lot at the civic center because of the rule banning loaded firearms while participants are inside the gun show.

After the accidental shooting paramedics took Lake to Memorial University Medical Center with the injury considered to not be life-threatening.

Savannah-Chatham police have previously stated that they are currently investigating the incident.

No other injuries were reported at the event which showcases thousands of new and used handguns, as well as other weapons including knives, swords and accessories having to do with guns or hunting, according to Eastman Gun Shows.

This was not the only incident of self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

An unidentified 21-year-old man shot himself in the hand when he was cleaning his SIG 1911 pistol in his bedroom apartment at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to an Athens-Clarke police report.

The report stated that the man removed the magazine, cocked the slide to the rear, released the slide and pulled the trigger to drop the hammer.

The bullet went through his hand after he pulled the trigger, but was stopped by a stack of books across the room, according to police.
