Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: 'Pacman' Reveals Reason Why He Chose Timothy Bradley
Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao revealed his reason for choosing WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley as the opponent for his 66th and final fight.
Pacquiao and Bradley will be meeting for the third time on April 9th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will serve as a rubber match between both men, as Bradley won their first encounter in June 2012, while Pacquiao got even during their rematch in April 2014.
"Pacman" will be fighting his final fight on the said date for him to be able to fully focus on being a public servant in his home country, the Philippines. He will be running for a Senatorial seat at the 2016 Philippine elections which will be held in May.
Bradley's name was placed as a last-minute addition to the shortlist of Pacquiao's opponents. He was officially chosen on New Year's Eve, among the list of names comprised of former sparring partner Amir Khan, and undefeated WBO light welterweight champion Terence Crawford.
Fortunately for "Desert Storm," he became the chosen one, although some fans were dismayed with the choice, particularly some of Pacquiao's countrymen. But according to Pacquiao, there is a reason why he chose a third fight against Bradley.
In a report by Edward Chaykovsky for Boxingscene, the 37-year-old boxer says it was never about the money, as many have claimed. Rather, it was about the kind of fight that Bradley can bring to the table.
"The most important, of course, was what fight can give fans the enjoyment and excitement they expect, which, actually is my primary criteria in choosing an opponent," Pacquiao said, according to a Philboxing.com article.
Pacquiao has always been vocal about his intent to always give the fans a performance from him that they would forever remember. Unfortunately for him, his last fight against Floyd Mayweather was the exact opposite, as the fight dismayed many spectators.
Bradley last saw action in November, where he won a ninth round TKO against former world champion Brandon Rios.
