Manny Pacquiao Next Fight News 2015: 'Pacman' wants final fight to be held in the Philippines

Manny Pacquiao is looking to have his final fight in his home country of the Philippines.

The first and only eight-division world champion is currently in Dubai for the launching of the Go Sports shop in the Mall of Emirates. According to him, he wants his April 9th fight to be held in front of his countrymen.

"I haven't talked to Bob Arum yet, but the fight may be held in the Philippines, if the situation permits it," Pacquiao said in Filipino, speaking to local news outlet ABS-CBN.

After a 20-year boxing career, the 36-year old Pacquiao made the decision to finally walk away from the sport to focus on a career in politics. He is currently the Congressman of the Mindanao's Sarangani Province, and is now eyeing for a Senatorial seat in the coming 2016 Philippine Elections which happens in May.

While Pacquiao is a beloved prizefighter, the same cannot be said about him as a public servant. He has been criticized for his supposed lack of commitment in his duty. In a January report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer stated that Pacquiao attended to a mere four Congress sessions in 2014.

Pacquiao did promise to become a full-time public servant if he does win in the elections, but also defended his reason as to why he wants a seat as high up as the Philippine Senate.

"If I become a public servant, I will fully devote myself to being a public servant," Pacquiao said in another ABS-CBN report. "One or two more fights and that's it."

"I believe I would be able to help more people if I was a Senator," he added.

Neither Pacquiao, nor his promoter Bob Arum has made the decision on which name they are picking as the final opponent. This past week, the 83-year old Top Rank head honcho announced that the final shortlist of names include that of Amir Khan and WBO 140-pound world champion Terence Crawford.
