Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather 2 Fight News: Rematch Negotiation Rumors are 'False' Says Mayweather
Retired pound-for-pound boxing king Floyd Mayweather recently disputed Manny Pacquiao's claims about negotiations for a rematch.
According to Stephan A. Smith of ESPN.com, Mayweather himself spoke to him about the said situation and immediately denied Pacquiao's claim.
"I can't think so unless Floyd Mayweather is lying because he and I spoke a couple of weeks ago via text, and he emphatically stated that it was false, that there is no negotiation, that he is not fighting anymore, period. As a matter of fact, that's exactly what he [Mayweather] said. I'm reading from the text here dated October 9th: 'It's totally false, I'm not fighting anymore, period."
Last week, Pacquiao had recently made claims through through a Facebook video he released that negotiations for a possible rematch against Mayweather was in the works.
"I don't know yet who's my opponent next but we're still negotiating right now about the rematch with Floyd Mayweather so hoping for that," Pacquiao said.
Floyd Mayweather retired from the sport of boxing in September, after 19 years of fighting professionally. Along the way, he was able to win twelve world titles in five weight-divisions. He last fought former world champion Andre Berto, where he won by unanimous decision.
Pacquiao, on the other hand, is also looking to walk away from prizefighting soon, to focus on his aspirations as a public servant in the Philippines. Currently the Congressman of Sarangani Province in Mindanao, "Pacman" is aspiring for a Senatorial seat at the 2015 eletions, which will be happening in May.
"One more fight before the election," Pacquiao told Karen Davila of the ABS-CBN News Channel in an exclusive interview. "I've been in this sport long enough, for more than 20 years already."
The first and only eight-division world champion scheduled his final fight for April 9th, with an opponent yet to be determined.
