Marge Simpson Channeled by Office Actress Mindy Kaling (VIDEO)

Actress Mindy Kaling has transformed herself into Marge Simpson for her latest photo shoot, drawing mass attention to the actress' new sitcom "The Mindy Project."

During a recent photo shoot, the former "Office" star found herself affront of a backdrop that look much like the Simpson family's living room. The actress herself was sitting atop the family couch, decked out in a bright green dress, funky orange beads, and of course a very top heavy blue hair do.

"Growing up, I remember my parents feeling a little wary of The Simpsons," she told Glamour. "This was the late eighties, and there was a wave of articles about TV shows that were bad for America."

Kaling chose to channel one of her favorite characters.

"Marge Simpson is the one who's really funny," Kaling added. "Her character looks so crazy, but then she's supposed to be totally demure. I think [Simpsons creator] Matt Groening is a genius for giving her that hair."

Kaling has recently branched off from the popular "Office" comedy, which she also helped to write, and will now work on her own comedy satire titled "The Mindy Project." The pilot episode will run next Tuesday September 25 and feature Kaling as an OB-GYN with a very messy life.

"My character is a really busy doctor who is kind of in a state of arrested development because she never had a chance to date," Kaling explained to the magazine. "In other words, she's hilariously screwed up."

Kaling commented on how much writing for television has changed in the past few years, elaborating on how female character are now able to be far more real.

"It used to be that you had to make female TV characters perfect so no one would be offended by your 'portrayal' of women," she said. "Even when I started out on The Office eight years ago, we could write our male characters funny and flawed, but not the women. And now, thankfully,it's completely different."
