Marilu Henner's Super Memory: 'Taxi' Actress Still Remembers Old Lines
Marilu Henner's super memory has gained attention recently, with the "Taxi" actress being showcased on CBS's "60 Minutes" and with the release of her book, "Total Memory Makeover."
Marilu Henner's super memory is a medical condition known as highly superior autobiographical memory, which allows her to remember every day of her life with perfect accuracy. While many of us remember only major days of our lives- and then, with some difficulty- Henner is able to remember even what she had for lunch, with whom, and the weather that day.
"When somebody gives me a date or a year or something, I see all these little movie montages, basically on a time continuum, and I'm scrolling through them and flashing through them," she told ABC News.
Her powers of perfect memory helped further her career as an actress to new heights. She appeared on shows like "Taxi," and the "Batman" animated cartoons. She also appeared in movies, including "Cannonball Run II" and "Titanic."
"I can always remember where I first read a script or what I studied or what I liked about, things like that," Henner said. "But definitely being an actress, I learned how to embrace my memories and celebrate them and explore them without hesitation whatsoever."
Henner's newest book- her ninth to date- focuses on memory; how to unlock repressed memories, recall memories faster, understand four types of memory retrieval, and turn new found memories into a treasure map to the future are all part of what she does daily.
While the actress' long-term memory is phenomenal, her short term memory may not be so good: it was impaired when she got into a car accident in 2001.
Henner's earliest memory is during her infancy, at a baptism.
