Marina Krim Blog 'Life With the Little Krim Kids' Taken Down, Lulu Tried to Fight Off Nanny Yoselyn Ortega
Marina Krim's blog, "Life With the Krim Kids," has been taken down in the aftermath of the tragic deaths of her two children on Thursday.
The blog had documented the picturesque life Marina shared with her husband, Kevin Krim, and their three children. However, the family's lives have been left devastated after their nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, stabbed and murdered two of the children before slashing her own throat and wrists, in what appeared to be a suicide attempt.
Marina Krim recently returned home to find her two year old son, Leo, and six year old daughter, Lulu, stabbed multiple times lying fully clothed in a pool of blood in the bathtub. Their nanny was beside them, and it now appears that Marina witnessed Ortega, 50, slit her own throat with a kitchen knife before being rushed to a local NYC hospital.
Marina, whose husband is the senior vice president of CNBC Digital, had been out with her middle child - three year old daughter, Nessie. However, she had returned home after Ortega and her other two children did not show up to meet her after Nessie's swimming lessons.
At first she had gotten home to her family's apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City at about 5.30 p.m but found the apartment dark with the lights off. So she went to the lobby to enquire whether Ortega and the kids had left the building. When she was informed she returned to the apartment and checked more thoroughly, and that is when she found the horrific scene in the bathroom.
The murders have stunned the nation and many have been offering words of condolence and prayers for the family on social media sites on Friday and Saturday as news spread of the shocking tragedy.
New reports released on Saturday have also described that eldest daughter Lucia had multiple defensive wounds on her where she had tried to protect herself from her nanny's attack. However, she suffered multiple stab wounds to her stomach and neck. Her younger brother, two year old Leo, also suffered two stab wounds to the neck, law enforcement sources have told the New York Post.
The source described, "They both suffered. They bled out. The little girl tried to protect herself."
It has been reported that when paramedics arrived at the scene the two young victims were still alive, but they died from their wounds before arriving at the hospital.
More details have also emerged about Ortega, with neighbors saying that she had been visibly unravelling prior to the killings. Some witnesses have said that the nanny had looked sick and gaunt, as well as nervous leading up to the murders.
Other reports have suggested she was suffering health problems - both physical and mental. She also had complained of money issues to Marina, who had offered her more hours looking after the children to help her increase her income.
One witness, Ruben Diaz, 49, has said, "She lost a lot of weight. She looked very unhealthy. It looked like she was going through some problems. She had aged a lot - like seven years in a few months," according to the NY Post.
Marina Krim's online blog, which has been taken offline following the tragedy, was well maintained by the doting mother.
The blog consisted mainly of photographs of the family and portrayed them as a close, happy, loving family unit.
The blog documented trips to pick apples, visits to pumpkin patches as well as other fun family events such as play-dates. The various photos show a happy family, with the three children often seen playing around the home.
The mother writes in the blog, "One of the best parts of my day is after I drop both girls off at school and have 3 precious hours with little Lito all to myself. Ok, I'm near getting cheesy I adore this boy so much!!!"
She added, "Lito, I must say, is a very clever little boy. He is super talkative and just has a million thoughts running through his brain and can express himself amazingly well for an almost-2 year old. I'm thinking he could be a Mini-Kevin."
Just hours before the murders she had been posting new inserts onto her page: "Leo speaks in the most adorable way possible."
She also spoke in the blog about her eldest daughter Lulu: "Lulu is in love. His name is Joakim, he's 1/2 British, 1/2 Swedish. He lives in our apartment building and speaks with a British accent, is a total hipster and we love his parents. She gets totally giddy around him. Not sure Lulu knows this but Joakim has 2 other girlfriends as well..."
"Lulu has another boyfriend -- When I picked her up from school yesterday, she told me that Martin (pronounced 'Mar-teen', he's half-french, half-peruvian) is her boyfriend and her valentine. Apparently, she kissed him twice."
In another 2011 post she wrote: "When I ask Lulu what she wants to be when she grows up, she always says she wants to be a Mama. And she is going to be a really good one."
It is still unknown what caused Ortega to attack the two children she had been looking after for about a year. Prior to that Marina Krim had reportedly been a stay-at-home mom.
The family were thought to have been close to Ortega and had even visited the nanny's family in the Dominican Republic. In one blog post Marina wrote: "It was wonderful. And we met Josie's amazing family! The Dominican Republic is a wonderful country!!"
