'Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle' News: Solo and Co-op DLC Out Today
Fans of "Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle" were treated to a special surprise today. It has been revealed that the first major season pass update has been released.
According to Eurogamer, the update consists of new single-player challenges, as well as a co-op campaign. The surprise rollout of the update, called the Ultra Challenge Pack, was first noticed by users on Reddit who revealed that their season pass receipts started showing the release dates of the two major DLCs.
So far, two small weapons packs called the Pixel Pack and the Steampunk Pack have been released. The packs consisted of eight themed weapons. With the first major update out today, fans only need to wait for one more, which is apparently scheduled to drop on Jan. 16, 2018. However, an official confirmation of the second date has yet to be released by Ubisoft.
"Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle" mixes two beloved franchises in a funny and enjoyable game. The trailer, released earlier this year, finds Mario and Luigi working alongside the Rabbids, who are dressed as Mario and Princess Peach. The game is very colorful and cartoonish, making the game a visual stand out.
The game has gotten good reviews and was the recipient of over 50 awards and nominations at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). In his review, GameSpot's Edmond Tran said the game "exudes off-beat optimism that never dissolves," adding that it is "an implausibly engrossing formula that is positively challenging and endlessly charming."
Polygon's Russ Frushtick described the game as "cute without sacrificing challenge," concluding that the game "manages to walk a narrow road, offering up a legitimately challenging squad tactics experience without alienating the family-friendly Mario audience." It currently holds an 85 percent rating on Metacritic, indicating generally favorable reviews.
"Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle" was released on Aug. 29 on the Nintendo Switch.
