Marissa Mayer Welcomes Baby Boy, Yahoo's CEO 'Doing Great'
Yahoo's CEO Marissa Mayer and her husband Zack Bogue have welcomed a baby boy on Sunday night.
The news arrived via Twitter, where Bogue posted a happy message on Monday morning.
"Baby boy Bogue born last night," wrote the new father. "Mom (@MarissaMayer) and baby are doing great-we couldn't be more excited!"
Moreover, Yahoo spokeswoman Anne Espiritu said Monday that "both Marissa and baby are healthy and the family is very excited," reported CBS News.
The 37-year-old gave birth to her first child one week before her due date, according to Yahoo News.
While already six months pregnant in July, Mayer became the CEO of Yahoo Inc., making headlines worldwide.
Mayer said that Yahoo's board knew about her pregnancy before hiring her at their helm, and that their move displayed a change in the business environment for women, telling Fortune magazine her hiring "showed their evolved thinking."
The new mom also said she does not want to be out of the office long, and that she plans to work through most of her maternity leave, Yahoo News reported.
"I like to stay in the rhythm of things," said the Yahoo leader.
The baby boy's name has not yet been announced.
Mayer was formerly a top executive at Google for 13 years before she assumed the lead position at Yahoo.
Many users of Twitter are reacting to Mayer's delivery with congratulations, while others are making jokes and speculating when the famous CEO will return to work.
"Marissa Mayer had a baby boy," wrote Jairaj, who quipped: "Finally Yahoo gets a CEO who delivered… : )"
Rebecca wrote, "I'm SO glad that everyone has their opinions on Marissa Mayer's maternity leave at the ready. I bet she really wants your advice, too. #Ugh"
Twitter user Dana defended Mayer against those who disagree with the new mom going back to work, writing, "Yay, Marissa Mayer had her baby! Anyone with stupid opinions about this, please just [be quiet]."
