Mark-Paul Gosselaar Baby Boy Welcomed

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, star of "Saved by the Bell," welcomed a third child with his wife Catriona McGinn on Monday, Sept. 30.

The couple, which has been married just over a year, named their newborn son Dekker Edward.

"We are overjoyed with the new addition to our family," said the 39-year-old actor in a statement, according to People.com. "We are madly in love with our little boy. He is healthy and just perfect- all we could ask for."

The baby boy joins Gosselaar's two children, Ava Lorenn and Michael Charles, from a previous marriage.

As for the baby's unusual moniker, Gosselaar explained why he and his wife were drawn to Dekker Edward.

"It is not traditional and it is not too quirky," he said, according to People. "It is different, but it's not something odd."

The "Franklin & Bash" star married McGinn, an advertising executive, in July 2012 in Santa Ynez, Calif.

"Catriona's absolutely gorgeous, she's stunning," Gosselaar has said previously of his wife. "And she takes my breath away!"

Their marriage is Gosselaar's second- the actor was previously married to Lisa Ann Russell for 14 years with whom he shares two children. The divorce was finalized in May 2011.

Meanwhile, Gosselaar portrayed Zack Morris on NBC's iconic television series "Saved by the Bell" from 1989 to 1993. The actor went on to appear on "Good Morning America," "Miss Bliss," and more recently, "NYPD Blue," "Raising the Bar," and "Franklin & Bash" where he portrays Peter Bash.

Last year, Gosselaar's dispassionate comments about "Saved by the Bell" upset fans of the beloved show.

"It's not a great show," the actor told Yahoo! TV. "The writing is kind of hokey… it's very much a piece of that time. We just thought we were doing a small little Saturday morning show and no one was watching. We were almost canceled every season, so we never got big heads."

Following the comments, "Saved by the Bell" fans took to Twitter defending the series, which still airs reruns today.
