Marshall Unveils Android Phone Made for Music
Surprising news coming from a company that is well known for making amplifiers, speaker cabinets and personal headphones for professional musicians and music groups – Marshall Amplification recently announced that they are making a smartphone that will be a stand out in audio performance.
The new phone is called The London, and according to a Tech Times report, it is Marshall's first foray into the smartphone market. The company promises that the new phone will provide a "better audio experience" for smartphone users who are music lovers also.
The London looks sleek with its matte black color and a metallic gold trim, and is said to be similar in design with other Marshall products such as its amplifiers or its top of the line headphones. In terms of the specifications, the report said that it will have a 4.7-inch 720p display, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD slot. No mention was made about what processor it will have. It will be equipped with an 8-megapixel rear shooter and a 2-megapixel front shooter, with a battery capacity of 2,500mAh. Android 5.0.2 will come pre-installed, as well as some custom music applications.
What will set the phone apart are its audio specifications. Its two forward-facing speakers will have enhanced volume and bass. It will have two stereo jacks, which can be used with the accompanying Marshall Mode in-ear headphones and another set of headphones if one needs to share the music listening experience. There is a special M button that provides one-click access to music. A brass button provides control over music, while the phone's volume control is a gold scroll wheel which is supposed to provide more precise volume control.
The London is equipped with a special soundcard called Wolfson WM8281 Audio Hub which means it can play uncompressed formats like FLAC and can play music "at a higher resolution."
It has two stereo microphones with noise reduction for those who want to record music via the special DJ app or the Loopstack app that can record four tracks independently.
The phone will be initially available in the UK, Scandanavia and the Baltic states. According to a Swedish website where it is available for preorder, it will set one back 4,995 Krona, equivalent to around $585.
