'Martha Stewart Show' Cancelled
Martha Stewart’s do-it-yourself show has been cancelled after a seven-year run. The Hallmark Channel has announced that taping of new episodes will cease in April 2012.
Stewart is the host of the long-running series, which premiered in Sept. 2005 on national channels but was moved to the Hallmark Channel in 2010. The show is aired daily and reaches viewers across the world. It focuses on do-it-yourself projects and is a complement to Stewart’s various publications.
One spokeswoman for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia told Fox News, “We love working with the Hallmark Channel and are talking to them about daytime programming in the future.” The channel has cited rising expenses as the reason for Stewart’s cancellation.
Stewart has been a household name for decades and is the author of over 30 books on various topics such as cooking, decorating, weddings and entertaining. She also has home decor lines with Home Depot, K-Mart and Macy’s.
Omnimedia is Stewart’s corporation and is responsible for overseeing all of her projects, including publication of Martha Stewart Living, Everyday Food and Whole Living magazines.
In 2004, Stewart was convicted for insider trading in the stock market and entered prison on Oct. 8. She was released on Mar. 4, 2005 and immediately began working again. Her merchandise lines grew rapidly and she published a book before the end of the year.
A source close to Stewart’s show has promised an “Oprah Winfrey-style” send-off, according to reports.
