Detective Sgt. Jim Martens told the Battle Creek Enquirer that police believe Blige's disgruntled ex-girlfriend, 50, was draining the air from the tires of her former boyfriend's SUV when Blige went outside to confront her. Police then believe he was attacked by the former girlfriend.

After discovering Blige at his apartment, police went to the nearby apartment of the disgruntled ex-girlfriend to find her in blood-splattered clothing. She has been checked into Calhoun County jail and will be arraigned Friday in the local district court.

WOOD-TV reports that Blige's roommate Michael Thomas heard the air being removed from Blige's tires outside of the apartment window, and saw Blige return from his alleged altercation with his former girlfriend while sustaining stab wounds.

Thomas reportedly held Blige's wounds as he called 911.

Blige has reportedly been taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo where he is listed as being in critical condition.

The 63-year-old reportedly has a history of domestic abuse with his ex-girlfriend, as police have reportedly handled seven domestic abuse complaints between the two since August.

Blige is the father of R&B singer Mary J. Blige, who has won nine Emmy awards and reached multi-platinum status with several of her albums in the U.S.

The musician has said in previous interviews that she does not maintain a relationship with her father, who she described as abusive towards her mother and a victim of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome from the Vietnam War.
