Mary Mary's Tina Campbell Fasting to Help Marriage
Tina Campbell, one half of the the Grammy Award-winning gospel music duo Mary Mary, recently admitted that she has dealt with infidelities within her marriage. Now the Christian singer is revealing that she and her husband are fasting to restore their union.
Campbell, 39, is married to gospel drummer Teddy Campbell, 38, who has also worked as the percussionist for "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno. The singer first opened up about her husband's previous infidelities in the June issue of Ebony magazine and let fans, friends and family know how she was working to resolve the issue on ilovemarymary.com.
Tina asked for the support of those reading her posting on the website, where she encouraged people to participate in a fast with her while admitting flaws in both her husband and herself.
"I'm assuming that many of you have seen or heard about our article in Ebony that discussed the challenges of overcoming infidelity in our marriage," the singer wrote on behalf of both herself and her husband. "Well since the article, the challenges have worsened. My hope turned into hopelessness and despair and I became unwilling to forgive and fight, until God showed me myself. My husband's struggle, was with sexual immorality BUT I have struggled with anger, rage, unforgiveness, pride, just to name a few, for over two decades."
The singer blamed the devil for using strongholds from the couple's individual childhoods to break them apart and spoke about their plan to engage in prayer while fasting.
"Instead of being mad at each other we're mad at the devil and we're ready to fight," she wrote.
"Today we began a 30 day fast (May 24th-June 22nd) for complete deliverance and restoration," Tina continued. "If u are able to, please fast and/or pray daily that God would answer our prayers and give us a deeper love and commitment to him and to each other."
The singer explained why she decided to engage in the fast and asked for others to pray for her marriage.
"We believe he still works miracles and he can give us the greatest marriage we could have ever imagined," Tina said in the posting. "We can pray alone BUT your prayers will certainly help."
Last year, Mary Mary called in to Gospel Talk radio online to speak about the challenges of maintaining their life as a group while having individual families.
"It is very challenging having two very filled lives that are individual lives," Tina told Gospel Talk. "We don't have a life of Mary Mary we have a life of Erica and Tina and our husbands and our homes and they're very different. So it can be very challenging trying to maintain one unit that's like a marriage when we're already married at home. So it's hard."
