'Mass Effect: Andromeda' Tips and Tricks: How Does APEX Rating Work and How to Earn It
From the start, BioWare and Electronic Arts have been telling gamers that "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is going to be an entirely different game from the previous franchise trilogy titles. With that statement comes new game contents and mechanics, and one of those is the APEX rating.
One of the distinct features of "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is having various characters for different game stages. Those varying characters have different levels. So, to be able to determine a player's statistics and overall skills, developers introduced the APEX rating.
As other reports have mentioned, the APEX rating represents a player's "overall score" across the entire game. It is a way to measure a player's level and skills once he enters the multiplayer mode.
One "Mass Effect: Andromeda" player went to Reddit recently, saying he and his friend spent the same amount of time playing the title. However, his APEX rating (as of the time he started the thread) stands at 452, while his friend's rating was just at 284.
Other Reddit users on the thread then speculated that an APEX rating is not entirely based on the time spent in playing "Mass Effect: Andromeda." A Reddit user named Solkahn commented: "I would speculate that it's a skill ranking. In games like Battlefield, it would account for your (kill/death ratio), you score per minute, accuracy etc and come up with a skill rating. In ME3, I believe it was called N7 Rating, and typically the higher it is the better you are."
Meanwhile, in a report from Gosu Noob, it was explained how the APEX rating can go up "by simply playing." Everything that a player does when participating in a multiplayer sessions affects the APEX rating especially when they complete challenges, unlock weapons, and increase their levels. So it is not just based on time but also on the skills that a player has developed in playing "Mass Effect: Andromeda."
Apart from the mentioned indicators, Gosu Noob reports that "Mass Effect: Andromeda's" gameplay takes into consideration how much time a team needed to finish a map in adding up scores for the APEX rating. Other factors considered are deaths and revives a player had, number of enemies killed, badges earned, and accuracy in going for the kill.
And since "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is also a story-driven game, the gameplay will also consider all decisions the player has made before rounding up his APEX rating after every match. So, essentially, it is not as simple as spending more time on the game; every player's skills should level up as well to get higher APEX ratings.
