Matt Drudge Levels the Political Playing Field
When I was growing up, the political news came to us primarily from ABC, NBC, and CBS. They had a monopoly on the airwaves. These television news agencies were terribly predictable. They would promote the liberal agenda….and twist the conservative message into something that it wasn't. That was pretty much all we had back then when it came to politics and television.
Then along came cable television and FOX News....and suddenly there was a breath of fresh air where we started to hear both sides of the story. To this day, FOX News lives up to their reputation of being "fair and balanced." Conservatives, independents, and liberals know where to turn today if they want to hear both sides of the issues.
When the internet arrived on the scene, we had an explosion of information and perspectives. Of all the online news outlets, there is one today that stands out because of its volume of visitors and its determination to show us things that the mainstream media attempts to "keep under wraps." The Drudge Report always seems to have its finger on the up-to-the-minute pulse of the political world.
The Drudge Report is the second most popular political website (behind The Huffington Post) with over 14 million estimated visitors in the United States each month. Matt Drudge began this site in 1997. It is an innovative approach that provides links to news all over the web. One study last year said The Drudge Report drives more traffic than Facebook and Twitter combined!
This informative resource is a great example of professional journalism. It gives people the pertinent information and allows the reader to make up his own mind. Years ago, the news anchors of ABC, NBC, and CBS were skilled at trying to make liberal ideas sound warm and fuzzy. Today, the mainstream media continues to charge down that tired course….but they have lost much of their audience to FOX….and to the The Drudge Report….and to other websites that are not afraid to go against the tide of the liberal news establishment.
The news anchors of the mainstream media are a different breed than Matt Drudge. They simply push liberal policies. Matt, on the other hand, is passionate about getting us the whole story....rather than the liberal spin. He has been recognized as "the kind of bold, entrepreneurial, free-wheeling, information-oriented outsider we need far more of in this country." Come to think of it, there have been many people in the history of our nation who were seen as "outsiders," and yet they accomplished much more than most of their peers put together....especially when many of their peers were "cookie-cutter liberals."
News is about getting the whole story to the people....rather than spinning the message in a way that favors liberal causes. This election is once again providing many examples of the mainstream media promoting their liberal agenda. If it wasn't for The Drudge Report and other outlets that give us the whole story, we would feel like we were back in the days when I was growing up. Those "dark days" of hearing only one side of the story are thankfully a thing of the past in America.
Ronald Reagan said, "No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size." Something similar could be said of the media elites. "Few in the mainstream media ever reduce their liberal spin in an attempt to be fair and balanced." This is why America needs The Drudge Report and FOX News. We need all the facts. We need to know why the liberal way isn't working. We need to know what has happened and continues to happen in America and around the world when liberal policies are implemented. When open-minded people are able to compare the fruit of liberalism to conservative values, the majority of Americans land on the side of conservative values. It's just that simple.
That is why the simplicity of The Drudge Report is so apropos. There are no "middle-men" messing with the message like we see with ABC, NBC, and CBS. When middle-men are needed at places like FOX, we benefit from the insights of commentators like Charles Krauthammer for example.....without the spin of men like Dan Rather. Refreshing insights vs. liberal spin....that is the difference between The Drudge Report and the mainstream media.
At the end of the day, do you need someone to tell you what political path to follow? Or are you wise enough to know the truth when you hear it? There actually is no need for a liberal to fear The Drudge Report. Matt is simply doing what you know to be pure journalism without the spin. So go ahead and applaud his efforts, even if you are a liberal. We won't tell anyone. This nation you enjoy is a free country in part because of warriors like him.
If you would rather live in a communist country, no one here will try to prevent you from moving there. Go for it....live out your dreams in a land where The Drudge Report would be shut down and the free exchange of ideas would be kept from the populace. That's really what you want, isn't it? That is why you feel such underlying anger toward The Drudge Report and FOX News. Deep down, you don't like their free exchange of ideas. You want only your liberal ideology to be presented to the people. It's kind of like presenting the theory of evolution to children without also presenting the facts of Creationism.
That is what makes Matt Drudge in the present so different from the likes of Dan Rather in the past. It's a whole new world out there when it comes to political journalism. Matt isn't telling us what to believe....he is simply getting us connected to the facts so that we can make wise and informed decisions. Back in the 70's and 80's, the whole story was rarely reported on the television news programs. Today, it is only a click away....or in the case of The Drudge Report....about 3 million clicks a day!
There are obviously millions of Americans who have been eager for decades to know both sides of the story.
