Matt Ryan Reprising Constantine on 'Legends of Tomorrow'

Matt Ryan will be reprising his iconic role as Constantine in "Legends of Tomorrow" on The CW. The character will be featured in at least two episodes when the show returns for its third season.

Constantine will pop up in the ninth and tenth episode of "Legends of Tomorrow" season 3. Executive producer Phil Klemmer told The Hollywood Reporter that the character's appearance will shake things up on the show.

"We knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our 'Legends,'" Klemmer said. "More than anything, the episode promises to be scary as you know what — tonally it's 'The Exorcist' meets 'One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest.'"

Ryan played the Hellblazer John Constantine, who has the ability to square off with demons, in the show "Constantine" in 2014. The series aired on NBC for one season only. Its cancellation resulted in a fan outcry and petitions.

Ryan eventually reprised the role a few more times in "Arrow" season 4 in 2015. He also provided the voice of Constantine in the DC animated series "Justice League Dark."

Klemmer long wanted Ryan as Constantine on "Legends of Tomorrow." Last summer, he revealed to the press that he's working something out so that this can happen.

The "Legends of Tomorrow" appearance will not be the last for Ryan as Constantine as the actor will also be the main feature in the "Constantine" animated series on The CW Seed. The show will premiere in 2018.

"With the balance of good and evil on the line‎, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong," the animated show's logline stated. "After that, who knows...maybe there's hope for him and his soul after all."

Meanwhile, "Legends of Tomorrow" will begin its third season run on The CW on Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. EST. The series stars Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom), Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), and Victor Garber (Martin Stein/Firestorm).
